Today was the biggest day of my life. Today was the day that I got to play Pyramus in one of the plays done at the theater. It was such an honor. I cannot actually believe that I, Nick Bottom, a weaver, would get to play such a part in one of the most loved plays. Wow. Such an honor. My favorite part of being in the play was getting to practice and rehearse with all of the village people and getting to see the King, King Theseus. My least favorite part of being in this play was having to memorize all of my lines. Probably my favorite line was:
" This die, I, thus, thus, thus.(stabs himself repeatedly, and falls.) Now I am dead, no am I fled; my soul is in the sky. Moon take thy flight. (exit starveling, with his lantern, bush, and dog.) Now die, die, die."
I liked this line because I got to act. I really got to act. I had to act as if I was dying. It was hard for me because in a sense, I actually got to feel what it was like to die. It was kind of freaky though. If I could change one thing about the play write itself, it would be seeing the others characters more. I think being in the spotlight in this taught me is that you don't need to be famous and popular to really know who you as a person are, you don't have to have money to be happy, and when you get to have all of the fame, you wish you didn't have any fame at all.
Feels great to have good friends(this is how I sign all of my letters),
Nick Bottom

Dear Diary,
Goodness gracious. This world is so messed up. My daughter, Hermia, loves Lystander but she can not be married to him because I do not except of it. Thesus didn't agree with me. He thought that forced love isn't right and that I should let my baby, Hermia get married to that horrible witch boy, Lystander. Well Ya right. I am not going to listen to him. My Hermia is going to get married to whoever I want her to get married to. Even if it is Demetrius. Hermia needs to know that she does whatever and whenever her father wants. She is a women and women have to do what the guardian man says. I am her guardian man and until she marries, which she will marry Demetrius, she will have to obey my rules and not complain. That is a good one. A new rule is she has to do what I say when I say and cannot complain. Yes! Three points for Egeus and what zero for Hermia. Looks like I am going to win the bet. Let me tell you about that bet. Hermia and I made a bet that whoever can come up with the most senceable rules gets to sit in the good seats at one of the theater preformences. My rules are; 1) Every women has to obey the guardian ma or the women will get sent to the gallows. 2) Every man has to obey the King even if he doesn't like the law (Hermia said that this was already a law but I think she was just jealous. 3)The women has to do what the guardian says when they want it and is can be whatever and the women still has to do it.
Very hip and cool,
Your Favorite,
Egeus

Helena stole my lover. Lystander now totally loves her and not me. This is the most depressing day of my life. I wish that somebody would just smack the senses into Lystander. You'll never guess what he said to me, he said that he hated me and never wanted to see me again. How depressing is that? He said right to my face that he hated me and loved Helena. Then, I started yelling at Helena and she got really mad and stated yelling back. Lystander went to comfort Helena but Demetrius shook me away. Then they started sword fighting, and over Helena! What is wrong with those boys. Then I started up again going after Helena.
This really makes me mad because I finally realized what had happened. Puck, a mischievous fairy, used an herb that has a special potion inside of it to get Lystander to fall in love with Helena. I think they did this by taking the herb and pouring some of the juice onto our eyelids while we were sleeping. I figured out that when the herb got onto their eyelid, the person that put the juice on them would say what they wanted to happen. It would happen when the person awoke. Puck put the juice on LystanderLystander truly loves me and Demetrius truly loves Helena. Now, because of Puck, everybody is in love with the wrong person. I am really mad at Puck.
Sincerely...mad at Puck,
Hermia

Today our school went to the play, A Mid-Summers Night Dream. It was about a girl named Hermia who was being married to Demetrius. Hermia doesn't love Demetrius, she loves Lystander. Hermia faces getting killed if she doesn't obey her father, and this is where the story begins;
Egeus, Hermia's father, has arranged a marriage for Hermia and Demetrius. Helena is in love with Demetruis and doesn't want him to be married to Hermia. Egeus puts on a play for the wedding. All of the actors rehearse in the woods. In this woods, lives fairies and creatures beyond imaginable. They are extremely mischievous. When Helena and Demetruis go into the forest, they find Hermia and Lystander. Helena thinks that Lystander is dead, but he is only sleeping. Before Helena came, they fairies put a potion on Lystander that makes him fall in love with the first person that he sees once he is awaken. Helena wakes Lystander up and then Lystander falls in love with Helena. Puck and Oberon, who are fairies, are the ones responsible for making everyone fall in love with the wrong person. Oberon is the king of all the fairies and has been causing a lot of problems. He tried to turn his wife into an animal, he tried to sabotage love, and he tried to ruin the relationship between young lovers.
Sincerely,
Peter Quince

Today, my brother, Lysander can home from his "school". He told us all about Shakespeare. This is what he said:
"Next to god, a wise mad once said, Shakespeare created most. He enriched the stage with comedies, tragedies, histories, and strange plays that haunt your vision. He was gentle, a good businessman, and a careful father. He was born on April 23rd, 1564. He was the third child, and the only boy. When he was 4 years old, he began school at the local pretty school. He left hi grammar school when he was 14 to help his fathers glove making shop. When he was eighteen, he was married to Anne Hathaway. He had three children, two daughters and a son, by the age of 20. When he was 28, he was a well known actor and play writer. He lived and worked in London until his mid 40's. When he was forty, he returned to his family in Stratford. " When he died, he left behind a widow, two daughters, and the richest imaginary world ever created by the human mind.
The best loved plays, A mid summers night dream was about a night of confusions in a haunted wood. Four young people, try to resolve their passions, and six worthy workmen, try to rehearse a play when they stumble upon a magical moonlight, that has powerful spirits in the woods. Shakespeare wrote this about when Romeo and Juliet was becoming common."
Love,
Demetruis

Today, the new theater opened down the road. Mum said that it was 75 feet and had twenty sides. I never knew that they could make something that big. She went to one of the performances and says that it costs 1 pence. After she had seen it the price was raised the price to 7 pence though. The plays take place between noon and two o'clock because of the lighting from the sun. The plays normally last two to three hours and end with something that is nondramatic. Mum says that they normally use a jig or a fencing demonstration.
To make the actors, (that is what they call the people who play the person) look more like their character, they wear this new thing called makeup. They put it on their face and they can completely change the way they look. It is truly amazing. They also wear wigs and false beards. They would fill pig bladders with animal blood to make the wounds more realistic.
The structure of the theater was carved or painted to be acted as marble. The scenes were projected over the stage using sheets of cloth. The scenes, such as a bar or mossy bank, had props to. They used a chariot, gallow, tables, trees, beds, thrones, and writing desks. The costumes had gems. They used swords, gowns, crowns, and robes.
They also had a winch that would lower and raise the actors playing gods and goddesses They also had trapdoors that you could "disappear" to.
Anyway. I have to go now. Mum wants me to help her with the cooking.
Bye,
Helena
